This summer, Janet Jackson will perform at Essence Fest 2024 in place of the Smoothie King Center

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Janet Jackson will make her fourth appearance in New Orleans this summer at the 2024 Essence Cultural Festival.

Jackson was originally scheduled to headline the Smoothie King Center on July 23 as part of her Together Again Summer 2024 tour, but her plans modified. The show was canceled, and he or she is now the scheduled headliner on one of three nights of live shows in the annual festival, which this 12 months runs from July 5 to July 7 at the Superdome, The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate reported.

Essence has not revealed when Jackson will perform.

Jackson previously performed at the event in 2010, 2018 and 2022. The most up-to-date performance sold out all 48,500 seats and was reported to be the highest-grossing night in the festival’s 30-year history.

Last week, Essence magazine revealed that the festival will host a reunion of the Cash Money Millionaires collective, consisting of rappers related to the New Orleans label. However, no artists were named apart from Cash Money co-founder Bryan “Baby” Williams, also generally known as Birdman.

Festival producers regularly present the list of event participants. The newspaper reported that some Essence fans took to social media to specific frustration with the late start and strange one-off reveals.

In addition to nightly live shows in the Superdome, the festival will feature programs on networking, finance, profession, wellness, fashion, beauty and more at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and other venues throughout the city.

Inaugurated in 1995 to commemorate Essence magazine’s twenty fifth anniversary, the festival has evolved into the world’s largest celebration of black women, culture and community, drawing greater than 530,000 people annually over the Fourth of July weekend in New Orleans, in accordance with Essence Communications Inc. .
