Tiffany Haddish admits she made reckless choices with men before deciding to get sober and celibate
Troubled comedian Tiffany Haddish turned her recent misfortune right into a bag. The “Girls Trip” actress has penned a brand new memoir detailing the ups and downs of her life and profession.
The book, titled ‘I Curse You With Joy’, also revealed that the 44-year-old had been sober for the past six months, claiming her life had modified for the higher – including now not drinking dangerously or driving, and being more selective with who she shared her life with. body.
She had to hand over alcohol and give attention to changing her life from the within – including adopting a brand new eating regimen, using herbs and attending spiritual retreats.
“I’m very sober” – Haddish admits To people. “I have never had a drink since (her DUI arrest). When I sit and take a look at my life, every part crazy that has happened is because someone or I had alcohol in our system.
The “Nobody’s Fool” actress also said she had advice for individuals who want to take control of their lives but are struggling with addiction.
“This is my challenge to people. Stop drinking for six months and see how your life changes. You will get your kidnapped body back; you will notice that your relationships will turn into higher and you’ll stop hanging out with people you do not have to deal with. “My problem was that I woke up next to ugly men,” she explained.
“With alcohol (in my opinion) it would be like, ‘You’re horny, let’s just do it,’” she said. Now she says she “would be like ‘no, no’.”
While she was probably joking, some people on social media wanted to know who she was calling “nasty?”
“The ugly men bar needs an explanation, wtf lol” – one X user he tweeted.
“6 months of celibacy? Who she had sex with 7 months ago. I do not remember hearing it with anyone in a relationship,” one other person on The Jasmine Brand’s Instagram he wrote.
Some commenters didn’t consider she had been sober for thus long, claiming that they had recently seen her drinking online.
“I won’t take any advice from that cornball,” she said, adding, “And wasn’t she drinking on the plane right now?”
That last comment is a reference to Haddish’s Instagram Live, which he did during her February flight to Israel. In the video, she was seen drinking the drink and insisted it was orange juice, regardless that people questioned her sobriety on the time.
During an interview with People, Haddish talked a couple of recent trauma in her life and what led her to drink.
The most significant experience that influenced her was her public breakup with ex-boyfriend Common in 2021. Just a number of months later, she experienced the heartbreaking lack of her grandmother, who had played a big role in her formative upbringing.
The situation worsened in January 2022 when she was arrested in Georgia on suspicion of driving under the influence. This happened just before a lawsuit was filed against her and other actors, accusing them of sexually abusing or grooming children during filming. Although the lawsuit was dropped shortly after it made headlines, the damage to her profession and personal life had already been done.
If that wasn’t enough, she found herself in trouble with the law again in November 2023 when she was arrested for driving under the influence in Los Angeles. Police found her sleeping in her automotive at an intersection in Beverly Hills.
“My world collapsed,” she said, adding a vibrant side to her experience. “I’ve learned to take tomatoes being thrown at me and turn them into tomato sauce, and then I’m going to make spaghetti.”
Haddish’s latest book, following her 2017 New York Times bestseller “The Last Black Unicorn,” will probably be released on May 7.
