Police say Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is safe after a suspect broke into her official residence
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Los Angeles police arrested a suspect after breaking into the house of Mayor Karen Bass on Sunday morning, officials said.
Bass and her family were unharmed when the suspect gained access to the Getty House, the official residence of the mayor of Los Angeles on Irving Boulevard.
“At approximately 6:40 a.m. today, someone smashed a window to gain entry to the Getty House while it was occupied,” the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement on social media, adding that police responded and arrested the suspect without incident.

“Mayor Bass and her family were unhurt and are safe. The Mayor is grateful to the Los Angeles Police Department for his or her response and arrest of the suspect,” her office said in a statement.
Los Angeles police didn’t immediately release the name or other information in regards to the suspect, saying the investigation was ongoing.
Bass was a member of the Democratic Congress from 2011 until her election as town’s forty third mayor in 2022. The former Speaker of the State Assembly is the primary woman and second Black person to carry the position, following former Mayor Tom Bradley, who held the position from 1973- 1993.
