Is it that Wilson is not seen as someone who can connect with a broader demographic? Is this an assumption in regards to the potential purchasing power of Black people? Given the present state of sports and its visibility, strengthening Wilson on this light looks as if a no brainer. This moment is harking back to a music artist who is ready to deliver latest music to fans, but is on the mercy of the record company that is working on the album. The distinctive shoes are the top of basketball fame. So that Wilson hasn’t had it yet, when the WNBA footwear market clearly saw a resurgenceis puzzling.

It’s also not an issue of marketability.

The accolades Wilson has received on the court on the age of 27 have been extraordinary. Out of court, she was named to the magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2024. Her recently published memoir became a bestseller. She appeared within the Saweetie music video, which had over 35 million views, and was the primary athlete to sign Ruffles because the face of a brand new product. For anyone who follows the WNBA, Wilson is also known for having probably the most infectious personalities within the league.
