SZA will receive the Songwriters Hall of Fame Hal David Starlight Award
The R&B hitmaker wins the award dedicated to “talented young songwriters who are making a significant impact on the music industry with their original songs.”
SZA’s winning season continues. The Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter will be honored by the Songwriters Hall of Fame with the Hal David Starlight Award for Diversity.
Created in 2004, the Hal David Starlight Award recognizes “talented young songwriters who are making a significant impact on the music industry with their original songs.” According to the website, the award is called in honor of SHOF chairman emeritus Hal David “for his many years of supporting young songwriters.”
Previous winners include hit makers similar to John Legend, Alicia Keys, Drake, Taylor Swift, Lil Nas X, Ne-Yo and more. The 53rd Annual Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards Dinner will be held on Thursday, June 13 in New York City. Nile Rodgers, SHOF chairman and a legendary American musician himself, shared an announcement regarding SZA’s inclusion this yr.
“This is an incredibly exciting time for songwriters and music,” the statement read. “Phenomenal artists like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift are pushing the boundaries of what success looks like, but who can argue that the last two years have belonged to SZA. Amazing songwriting, amazing performances, amazing artistry. She thoroughly deserves to be the 2024 recipient of the Hal David Starlight Award!”
As previously reported by theGrio, SZA’s long-awaited sophomore album “SOS” became an industry hit, breaking sales records and winning multiple Grammy Awards. The project included several of the singer’s hit singles, including her chart-topping revenge anthem “Kill Bill,” the Grammy-winning “Snooze” and “Good Days.”
