For the past three years, ESPN commentator Molly Qerim has been at the middle of an alleged love triangle that has captured the imagination of social media.

After her divorce from ex-husband Jalen Rose, there have been rumors that she was involved with one other sports personality, their mutual friend Stephen A. Smith.

Both Rose and Qerim agreed on the explanations for the split, stating that “we agree on the reasons” for the breakup and decided to maintain those reasons a secret.

Still, the previous New York Knicks player said it has been amusing to observe the general public speculate about their breakup, especially rumors suggesting Qerim and Smith are involved.

After years of speculation, Smith finally cleared the air on the Wednesday, April 10 episode of ESPN’s “First Take.” During the episode, both he and Qerim wore the identical color, prompting Chris “Mad Dog” Russo, the show’s third host, to joke that the 2 will need to have just gotten married because they were both wearing white.

“Who said, ‘Me first?'” Russo he joked while wearing purple. His co-hosts began complimenting one another, at which point Smith said, “No, nothing’s going on, you already know what I’m saying. America lied about this for several years.

Qerim added: “People really believe it.”

“It actually is. I get asked that each one the time,” Russo joked, before Qerim said, “That’s ridiculous.”

“Here’s the upside to all this… they know my taste,” said the creator of “Stephen A. Smith: The First Years” together with his characteristic arrogance. “So they know my taste. It’s a compliment to her.”

“He obviously has great taste, too,” Smith added. “I think this is America’s way of saying that we both look really good.”

Fans thought Smith’s statement was hilarious, and lots of still didn’t consider he and Qerim were never an item.

“Jalen stood up and punched the air when he heard this,” one comment read, while one other said, “Too many coincidences between them lol, they must be talking or something!!”

At least one X user slammed Qerim for the alleged swap, commenting, “Going from Jalen Rose’s hairline to Stephen A.’s would be crazy for Molly.”

While many are hearing this from Smith right away, Rose has been vocal about how the rumors have impacted his life, at the same time as he tried to swerve out of his lane when asked concerning the two.

“I’m clearly not here to comment on what he does in his personal life or what she does in her personal life. I really like them both,” he told GQ interview in 2022. “There are still 100 of us. Would I only say this to people who thought we broke up because they were in a relationship? Then I have some swampland in Detroit and I’ll sell you for top dollar. That’s not why we broke up.”

The former Chicago Bulls player said the alleged relationship between his ex and Smith, although he has never verified it, bothers him most when he goes online.

“I can say something about someone’s band and I’ll see, ‘That’s why Molly left him!’ or “This is why Stephen A. is kicking your ex-wife!” he said, continuing, “That’s not true.”

Rose stated that she still needed to stay skilled and respectful.

“I work with him, I really like him and he’s my brother. I loved her, we were friends before we got married, we just didn’t work as a couple,” he explained. “We are calm! But what bothered me was that I saw all this speculation and other people assumed that was why,” he said.

Now that Smith has cleared the air, possibly Rose will find some peace. However, it doesn’t look like fans will quit any time soon.
