“Martha’s Summer House” star Preston Mitchum gets engaged during a romantic getaway

On Tuesday, Mitchum proposed to his now-fiancé, Donald Cooley, by presenting him with a 1.95-carat “Streamline Three Row Band Ring” from luxury jewelry brand David Yurman.

According to PeopleThe “Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard” star got engaged to Donald Cooley on Tuesday during a romantic getaway to Europe that began in Paris and spread to Barcelona.

“We, Preston and Donald, are happy to announce our recent engagement while traveling in Madrid, Spain,” the couple told People.

“In a world where love between black gay men is not always appreciated and celebrated, we proudly stand on this beautiful path together,” they added. “Our journey is a testament to the beauty and power of love in all its forms and the commitment to always love and learn from one another. With hearts full of gratitude, we look forward to writing the next chapter of our lives together.”

Mitchum, 38, and Cooley, 33, began dating in 2019 after meeting on gay dating app Jack’d.

The reality star asked her now-fiancé to marry her while having fun with dessert during a 10-course meal at Ramón Freixa Madrid restaurant. To capture their special moment, he hired a pair of photographers who posed as guests at a restaurant in Madrid.

Mitchum proposed to Cooley with a 1.95-carat “Streamline Three Row Band Ring” from luxury jewelry brand David Yurman, People magazine reported, decorated with strips of black diamonds set in a pavé setting and surrounded by a silver band.

“I liked the cut and color of the ring,” Mitchum said. “Black is classic and black diamonds made it even better. And black men deserve it too!”

The couple – each lawyers – currently live together in Washington

“I don’t pretend that relationships are easy, they’re not. But they just shouldn’t feel like they’re working hard. They shouldn’t feel like they’re suffocating. They should feel free,” Mitchum said, completely satisfied that he and his fiancé have “all of these things and more.”

“Freedom to be yourself. Free if you wish to communicate. You should want to be silent for a moment,” he advised. “The freedom to be honest about what’s going well. Being able to freely discuss what might require a little more effort. Freely define your terms, even if it wouldn’t make sense to others. Free.”
