Zendaya lists her biggest competitors in Vogue

Ahead of the premiere of her latest film “Challengers” on April 26 and this yr’s Met Gala on May 6, which she is co-chairing, Zendaya posed for the duvet of the magazine The May issue of Vogue – for each US and UK editions. “I mean, listen, (Tashi) takes this shit to a whole new level,” Zendaya said when asked about her competitive tendencies. “(But) I would say yes, I am competitive in the sense that I want to work hard and I try not to compete with anyone else. I’m just trying to say, “I’ve already done this, OK, so now I have to do better.”

Although she admits that the pressure she puts on herself can “be a bit paralyzing at times,” the actress relies on the freedom, security and creative commitment that comes with working on set, to the point that she is already an experienced producer and explores other opportunities for stage roles, such as potential directing. Hoping to one day start a family, Zendaya, who poses in a Schiaparelli Haute Couture wedding outfit for this issue, wonders what her future might look like and whether she will be a “public figure” forever.

“I have to come to terms with it and just live my life,” she said, reflecting on the eye that comes with being a star. “Because I don’t necessarily want my kids to have to deal with that.”

In addition to learning the right way to set polite boundaries with fans, Zendaya says her ideal future scenario would involve “doing things and jumping out when I need to jump out, and then living a safe and protected life with my family and not worrying that if If I don’t deliver something all the time or I don’t give something all the time, it will all disappear.”

As part of Zendaya’s interview with Vogue, Serena Williams, who, like Zendaya, started her career as a teenager, entered the chat. In an intimate conversation via Zoom, the actress and tennis star reflected on her demanding career and openly admitted that in the beginning there were “no other options” than the one that led her to stardom.

“It’s funny because (another choice outside of acting) is something I’m considering right away,” Zendaya told Williams when asked what her alternative profession could be. “I don’t know how much choice I had. I have complicated feelings about children, fame, being in the public eye and being a child actor. …And I think it’s only now, as an adult, that I’m starting to think, “Oh, OK, wait a minute: I was only doing what I knew and that’s all I knew.” I’m almost going through an anger phase now because I didn’t have time for it before. I felt like I was thrown into a very adult position.”

As the ladies continued to share their experiences, the tennis legend shared her secret to balancing work, life, family and private passions: “(surrounding yourself) with people you trust to take the load off you – and setting boundaries.”
