Spotify tops its list of the 100 best R&B jams of the streaming era

Spotify is shaking up the tables and sparking heated debates with its latest music rating list.
Enlargement CLASSICS Spotifyits first-ever program celebrating catalog music launched last February, the music streaming giant named it one of the 100 best R&B songs of the streaming era.
Spotify defines the “streaming era” in its criteria as the period from 2015 to the present, including songs released on or after January 1, 2015. Although the list comes from the hottest streaming platform, the selection here has been made based on streaming volume. Instead, Spotify’s U.S. editorial team, together with its creative director, Urban Music chief Carl Chery, created the list based on “quality, influence, play value, influence and cultural significance,” in response to an official source blog.
R&B specifically has evolved into a unique sound from the early aughts through the 2010s, and much more so with the advent of music and streaming in the 2020s. As such, this list includes a variety of sound profiles and influences falling under the R&B umbrella, with many entries from artists equivalent to Beyoncé, The Internet, Jazmine Sullivan, Steve Lacy, Summer Walker, Masego, Lucky Daye, Brent Faiyaz, SZA, Jhene Aiko and Frank Ocean, amongst others.
