Cynthia Erivo is very recognized for her activism and support of the LGBTQ+ community.
The actress can be honored by the Los Angeles LGBT Center, certainly one of the world’s largest queer nonprofit organizations, at its annual gala on May 18. Erivo will receive the Schrader Award.
Named in honor of the late Rand Schrader, a gay rights and AIDS activist and the first openly gay Los Angeles Municipal Court judge, the Schrader Award recognizes individuals who’ve demonstrated outstanding achievements in their field and activism on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community .
“I am thrilled to continue supporting the Los Angeles LGBT Center, an organization that does so much for our community,” Erivo said in an announcement. “I can’t wait to celebrate with the other presenters and winners and, of course, our queer family in Los Angeles.”
Erivo was joined in accepting honors that evening by multidisciplinary visual artist Mickalene Thomas, who accepted the Vanguard Award, and pop trio MUNA, who accepted the Leslie Jordan Award for Excellence in the Arts.
Erivo has a giant yr ahead of her, as the EGOT actress and singer will star alongside Ariana Grande in the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Wicked, which is scheduled to premiere in November 2024.
