Serena Williams is enjoying new success as a mother of two
While promoting the launch of her latest enterprise, Wyn Beauty, Serena Williams opens up about finding balance together with her two daughters.
Tennis legend. Serial entrepreneur. Venture capitalist. Serena Williams has many titles, but since giving birth to her first child, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., in 2017, her favorite title has been “Mom.”
In August 2023, Serena and her husband Alexis Ohanian welcomed their second daughter, Adira River. “I have to admit that I’m obsessed with her,” Williams gushed during an interview on “Today with Hoda & Jenna” on April 4 (per. People Magazine). “Oh my God, she’s so delicious. She’s the best, I love her.”
The founder of the newly launched Wyn Beauty store also discussed the transition from raising one child to two children, noting: “Two children is a different situation, but I haven’t experienced it yet because they are six years apart. So Olympia is at school most of the day and I spend most of the day with the baby. And then when Olympia is home, I spend time with her.
Williams is clearly following the sage advice she received before welcoming her second child.
“Someone gave me the best advice; they said, ‘Spend more time on the oldest case they’ll remember,'” he recalled. “Isn’t that the best advice? But yes. Because the little one won’t remember. That’s why whenever Olympia is home, I’m with her.”
As for the dynamic between her two daughters, Williams says it happily mirrors her own upbringing, as she grew up as the youngest of five sisters.
“That’s one thing Olympia always said: I want a sister,” she told hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager. “I was very happy when I had the opportunity to have another girl. I thought: “Yes!” …I’m used to girls.
The tennis prodigy-turned-icon is also adjusting to life after retirement, which allows her to be an active parent regardless of the season.
“I love sports and being active,” Williams said in a recent interview with Byrdie magazine, during which she also talked about how motherhood modified her perspective on beauty and achievement. “Leaving something I was still good at to be a mom was a very difficult decision. But I wanted to have another baby, so I had to do it. Now it’s about finding balance and doing other things that I’ve always loved.”
As Williams told the outlet, that balance included several new wins. “I can’t say that the Wimbledon trophy encourages volunteering at my child’s school.”
