Eric Benét recently decided to point out off his vocal range by singing the pirate anthem “Hoist the Colors” in his bathtub.

Little did the neo-soul artist know that inside hours of posting, he would grow to be the butt of quite a few jokes, with people commenting on the whole lot from his bizarre behavior and song alternative to Benét wearing pearls while bathing.

The “Spend My Life With You” chart-topping star, formerly married to Halle Berry, posted a video of himself having fun with a bubble bath on Thursday, April 4, to his 289,000 Instagram followers. He with subtitles video: “Yes, I wear pearls in the bathtub… but I do not squeeze them. #hoistthecolors bass tenor alto soprano high soprano… what do you would like? I actually have clothes.

With suds on his face and his back against the bathtub wall, the 57-year-old said in his best Elmer Fudd accent: “This is for all those people who say, ‘Eric Benét?’ Oh, I know, Eric Benét… He that… He sings high. He can only sing high. There’s only so much he can do.”

Adding, “It’s for all of you, right here,” before starting the song on the second octave of C, the second-lowest C note in his chest voice.

While several of his Adult Contemporary peers, akin to Marsha Ambrosius, Rahsaan Patterson, and Kindred the Family Soul’s Aja Graydon, were immediately impressed with his vocal abilities, few others were.

“RHOA” star Peter Thomas slammed Benét, commenting on his profile: “You lost your f***ing mind, not your pearls.”

The next day, gossip sites like The Shade Room got hold of the footage, and their followers couldn’t help themselves: banter Benét on his strange singing and alternative of jewelry.

“I’m clutching my pearls, this looks and sounds crazy,” one person wrote.

Another asked: “Eric, did they say you sing high or do you seem high because I understand what they mean.”

More than one person thought that perhaps there was more to it than bubbles tickling his imagination.

“Eric Benet plays too much (stop hand emoji) is this crack?” one person wrote on Twitter. Two others he said, “what’s wrong with you?” and “Um. Is Eric Benet All right?”

Benét’s range scans many octaves, and a few sources clock it in the range of C2 to C6 i others D#2 to F4. For over thirty years he has dazzled fans with his velvety tenor voice and retained his fame as a true voice singer, sounding exactly like his records. The song “Hoist the Colors” from the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean” is a classic that showcases deep baritone and bass voices.

While this will likely explain his desire to share his talent with the world, only he can explain sharing the bubble bath, his strange voice, and why he wore pearls while bathing in the primary place.

Several people, observing his strange behavior, thought of his ex-wife, a famous movie star.

“I know Halle blocked him,” one Instagram user wrote.

Another added: “I was remembering more and more why this lady left.”
