Halle Bailey will star in Pharrell Williams’ musical film
The singer and actress will join Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph and “Genius: MLK/X” star Kelvin Harrison Jr. in Williams’ coming-of-age film musical.
Halle Bailey is the newest star to affix Pharrell Williams’ upcoming musical film.
The 24-year-old singer and actress will reportedly join Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph and “Genius: MLK/X” star Kelvin Harrison Jr. in the film musical about Williams’ coming of age. Diversity.
According to reports, the film will be set in Virginia Beach throughout the summer of 1977 and is inspired by Williams’ childhood growing up in the Atlantis Apartments community. Williams and Mimi Valdés will produce the film through his production company I Am Other, together with Gil Netter through Gil Netter Productions.
Universal Pictures will release the film, which was written by Martin Hynes and Steven Levenson and is currently untitled.
Bailey’s appearance in the film will be her third appearance in a film musical after starring in 2023’s “The Little Mermaid” and “The Color Purple.” Previously the singer of “Anioł”. he told Variety that starring as Ariel in the Disney musical allowed her to “learn a lot about herself.”
“My mindset is to work, work, work to see results and work towards my goals. This is what I’m used to,” Bailey said in August 2022. She noted that by working so hard, she “emotionally went to places I’ve never been, and everyone on set can congratulate you and say, ‘Yes.’ , you killed it today, kid” – but then you will have on a regular basis to attend.

The singer and actress, who welcomed her first child, son Halo, in 2023, shared similar feelings about filming her second film musical, “The Color Purple,” directed by Blitz Bazawule.
“I remember Blitz called and mentioned – I was in the middle of filming ‘The Mermaid’ when I actually sent him my own tape – and I remember the first thing I read was that I was going to have to submit a gospel song,” Bailey said during Press conference in December 2023. “And I remember being very excited and saying, ‘(sighs) Thank God, yah!’ And I think I sang, “It Is Well.”
“But I took it as an indication, ‘Wow, this can be a project where not only will I be uplifted and guarded by my very own people, but I feel like God helps me and leading me into this project to show me things I would like to learn about myself. in the long run and find out how to proceed this journey as I’m still recent and searching to them for guidance.”
Bailey is repped by CAA. No premiere date has been announced for Williams’ film musical yet.
