Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock is asking out Republicans who’re upset with President Joe Biden declaring March 31 an official “transgender day of visibility” since it falls on Easter Sunday.

On Sunday, Warnock appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” where cursed Republicans like House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for apparently attempting to “divide” the country, the Daily Mail reports. According to Warnock, conservatives like Johnson “find transgender people disgusting.”

“It’s a denial of the Christian faith,” Warnock joked.

The Georgia senator and Baptist pastor noted the change in how Easter is well known annually and the importance of taking a day to strengthen the transgender community.

“March 31 was a day to uplift transgender people who experience violence and bigotry,” Warnock said. “Easter – the date changes every day. But this is just another example of people who have done this and who don’t know how to lead us, trying to divide us.”

Warnock’s response got here after Johnson sent a scathing tweet saying the Biden White House had “betrayed the central principle of Easter – which is the resurrection of Jesus Christ” by declaring a brand new trans holiday on Easter Sunday.

“Banning sacred truth and tradition – while declaring Easter Sunday ‘transgender day’ – is outrageous and abhorrent,” Johnson wrote in his post.

Johnson was joined by other Republicans shaming Biden for declaring a day of visibility on a Christian holiday. Former President Donald Trump, who’s running against Biden for a second time in November, released a press release criticizing Trans Visibility Day falling on Easter Sunday.

“It is appalling and offensive that Joe Biden’s White House… has formally declared Easter Sunday ‘Trans Day of Visibility,'” the statement read.

White House Speaker Andrew Bates issued a press release reaffirming his Christian faith while defending Biden’s decision to unite “the people” despite Republicans’ alleged attempts to “divide and weaken” the country.

“As a Christian who celebrates Easter with his family, President Biden stands for uniting people and defending the dignity and freedom of every American,” Bates said.

“Unfortunately, it is not surprising that politicians seek to divide and weaken our country with cruel, hateful and dishonest rhetoric. President Biden will never abuse his faith for political purposes or profit.”

The first was International Transgender Day of Visibility introduced on March 31, 2009. Created by Rachel Crandall-Crocker, who selected the spring date because she desired to keep her distance from Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20 and Pride Month in June.

Since Transgender Day of Remembrance honors the lives lost to violence against transgender people, Crandall-Crocker desired to dedicate a day to honoring the living. 2022 test from the Williams Institutea law school research center on the University of California, Los Angeles, found that greater than 1.6 million people within the U.S. discover as transgender.
