As each passing yr brings latest memories and milestones, every one unfortunately also signals a time to mourn a few of our beloved relations, friends and family members.
This number includes stars of stage, screen and airwaves, activists, sports stars and media personalities and more – outstanding figures who pave the way for our people or leave an undeniable impact on our communities.

Marlena Shaw
The legendary jazz and soul singer died on January 19, 2024, at the age of 84.

Battle of Hinton
The three-time Tony Award winner died on January 30 at the age of 67. He was credited as the first Scarecrow in the original production on Broadway.

Carl Weathers
Actor, director and former gridiron defender Carl Weathers retired on February 1 at the age of 76 on account of heart disease. He is probably best known for taking part in Apollo Creed in the franchise.

Son of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. King died on January 22 after a battle with prostate cancer. He was 62 years old.

Henry Fambrough
The last surviving original member of the legendary Motowon R&B group, The Spinners, died on February 7 at the age of 85. His death got here just months after his group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
