Kevin Hart’s Mark Twain Award Gala was a star-studded tribute to his comedic genius

Kevin Hart has officially joined the elite class of comedians.

The comedian was honored in Washington, D.C., over the weekend by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, receiving its twenty fifth annual award. Mark Twain in humor. The award, named after considered one of the world’s best humorists and writers, Mark Twain, was first awarded to Richard Pryor in 1998. Since then, comedy geniuses corresponding to Eddie Murphy, Whoopi Goldberg and Dave Chappelle have been honored.

Via Hart described the honour as a “big deal” and a milestone in his life that he doesn’t take without any consideration.

“It’s something that both embarrasses and excites me,” he said concerning the distinction. “To be a part of the conversation of individuals sharing this title is mind-blowing. This is something that can probably be a hit because the day goes on, [as] night away. For now, I’m just trying to get the context of this case.

Before taking the stage to accept his honor, the star was greeted by a group of peers that included Regina Hall, Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Nick Cannon, Tiffany Haddish, The Plastic Cup Boyz, Adam Blackstone, JB Smoove, Nelly and Keith Robinson, amongst others.

Accompanied by his wife Eniko and youngsters Hendrix, Kenzo, Heaven and Kaori, the comedian reportedly became emotional while delivering his award acceptance speech, thanking his family and paying tribute to his late mother, Nancy, for all her guidance and inspiration.

“I can’t get here without Nancy Hart,” Hart said. “I don’t get here without a high level of commitment and commitment to life, and I just like to understand who I am and what I’m capable of.”

“I am happy that I was raised by such a woman. I miss her very much and of course my home, but I know I have an angel. I think it’s the greatest smile in heaven as my mother looks on here tonight.”

The Mark Twain Award ceremony in Hart’s honor will air May 11 on Netflix.
