Willis fans unfazed by reaction to Trump case: ‘The train is coming’
ATLANTA (AP) — Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said Saturday that the election interference case against Donald Trump has not been delayed due to her romantic relationship with the special prosecutor she hired for the case.
“I don’t feel like we’ve been slowed down at all,” Willis told CNN in an interview. “I think there’s an attempt to slow the train down, but the train is coming.”
Her latest comments come as defense attorneys proceed to level allegations about her handling of a wide-ranging investigation into the previous president and current presumptive GOP nominee. Trump faces 4 criminal charges — including separate federal and state cases in connection together with his attempts to overturn the 2020 election, which he lost to President Joe Biden — but has fought to delay and dismiss the cases, arguing that political opponents are unfairly targeting him objective.
Willis spoke out days after a Georgia judge allowed lawyers for Trump’s co-defendants to appeal his ruling that she could proceed to pursue the case after special counsel Nathan Wade withdrew. This could allow defense attorneys to strengthen allegations of inappropriate conduct between Wade and Willis.
Defense attorneys argued that Willis hired Wade to profit from Trump’s impeachment through their romantic relationship. Supreme Court Justice Scott McAfee said there was insufficient evidence to support those claims, but he blasted Willis for what he called a “massive error in judgment.”
Willis told CNN that she doesn’t think her fame ought to be salvaged and that she didn’t do anything embarrassing.

“I’m not ashamed of anything I’ve done,” Willis said. “I think my biggest crime is that I was in a relationship with a man, but it’s not something I find embarrassing.”
Anthony Michael Kreis, a law professor at Georgia State University who is following the case, criticized her comments in an X post.
“If I were Fani Willis, I would simply not talk to the media at all at this time, simply out of an abundance of caution,” Kreis said.
