The HBCUniverse Summit returns in September for future innovators

The HBCUniverse Summit on the Future of HBCU Entrepreneurship and Innovation will return in September. Part two comes after a successful Black History Month event at Morgan State University.

Venture for THEM and THINK PGC have partnered to host the first-ever summit on February 24. Its mission highlighted the achievements of members of the HBCU community in entrepreneurship and innovation.

The summit featured multiple activations and panels where HBCU students could learn from and network with recognized leaders in multiple sectors. Panels included discussions on the future of startup fundraising, technology and innovation, media and culture, and digital currency.

Various workshops, HBCU Trivia and a pitch competition were also held, with over 450 people participating. Keynote speaker Dia Simms, CEO of Lobos 1707 Tequila, spoke about her journey as a black woman in business.

HBCUniverse featured over 20 guest speakers while also hosting virtual attendees from all over the world. In addition to over 30 sponsors and partners, many government agencies offered internship and full-time job opportunities.

Vice President Kamala Harris, a Howard University graduate, offered congratulations on the summit’s kickoff event.

“For HBCUs May this summit motivate us to continue supporting young Black students and professionals – the future of our nation,” said the vp and proud HBCU alumnus. “I can’t wait to see all you accomplish, and I thank you for all you do for your communities and our country.”

Maryland Governor Wes Moore also released an announcement on its launch.

“The work and ideas presented here today have the potential to help change the world,” the elected leader said. “It’s truly exciting to know that the next generation of leaders and aspiring entrepreneurs are coming together at Morgan State today – keep working towards your goals and always pursue your dreams.”
