Oprah Winfrey AND Gayle King have been best friends for almost half a century, and in all those years, the media buff has never seen the “CBS Mornings” host take a sip of alcohol.

The “The Color Purple” producer teased her friend for being so direct, reminding her of the time she asked for a special drink at Tina Turner’s wedding.

On a recent episode of “King Charles,” the CNN talk show hosted by King and Charles Barkley, the former basketball player told Winfrey that he would reasonably spend time along with her because she would take a sip occasionally.

The former talk show host appeared on the show to speak about her recent documentary, “An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame, and the Weight Loss Revolution.”

The conversation referenced Winfrey stating that eating disorders are like people scuffling with drinking, but some people didn’t see it that way in the late Eighties and early Nineteen Nineties.

“They said, ‘just put the bottle down,’ because no one understood that for some people – not everyone who drinks or drinks excessively becomes an alcoholic – but if you carry a marker or a gene that allows you to develop alcoholism, then then alcoholism develops.”

To soften the tone, Winfrey turned to her friend and said, “I can drink you under the table,” and she still won’t change into an alcoholic.

“She’s not lying,” King replied. “I can drink tequila to almost anyone,” Winfrey then said, which appeared to be music to Barkely’s ears.

“Barkley says he loves hanging out with the ‘Beloved’ actress because we go out and drink tequila at all hours,” he said jokingly. “I’m dating this woman. She doesn’t even drink.

“I know!” Oprah interjected. “Listen, at the last big party we went to, I swear she asked for Shirley Temple and said, ‘You can ensure you will put a cherry on it.’ I mean, he has no qualms about asking.

“No, I don’t drink,” Gayle joked, unwavering in her decision to not drink. Charles added: “She’s not funny at all.”

Oprah revealed how heterosexual Gayle is by sharing a story about how she ordered the strangest drink at one in every of her celebrity parties.

“We were at Tina Turner’s wedding and she asked for milk, OK?” The OWN founder made no secret of the Nutbush singer’s marriage to Erwin Bach in 2013.

Gayle said she had a reason for this. Apparently he just likes milk for cakes.

This is not the first time Big O has teased his best friend for not drinking. In fact, it’s such a joke that fans are reposting a 6-second video of him saying, “Gayle doesn’t drink, I drink” as a declaration.

Gayle hasn’t drank alcohol since highschool.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, she said the last time she drank was when she was a “teenager” at a Christian youth leadership conference.

“I vomited for three days,” she said he reminded. “I never wish to feel like this again. Oprah tells me I can taste excellent wines, but I do not drink them.

Although he doesn’t drink alcohol, there are other drinks that he really enjoys.

He says that in the winter he likes “Starbucks white hot chocolate with skim milk,” but in the summer he likes to “order pineapple lemonade from there.”

“I also like Martinelli apple juice,” she mentioned, adding: “One night at a celebration, I ordered a Shirley Temple. I told the bartender to “make something sweet.”

While the virgin Shirley Temple appears to be Gayle’s drink of alternative, it seems her billionaire pal has a much tougher favorite. In 2020, Oprah he said her recent favorite drink was a Moscow mule, a classic cocktail made with vodka, easy syrup, ginger beer, mint and lime.
