Dwyane Wade talks about what sparked his love for fashion and nail painting since 2007

Dwyane Wade has followed in his father’s footsteps in the case of fashion and self-care.

According to PeopleThe retired Miami Heat star said in a recent interview with fashion and lifestyle magazine Highsnobiety that in the case of dressing and personal hygiene, he takes after his father, Dwyane Wade Sr., in addition to other men in his family.

“My father was always a man who took care of himself. My uncles took care of themselves,” Wade said. “I always knew this was what I wanted to do: I wanted to be one of those well-dressed men who smelled nice, were clean-shaven and so on.”

Wade, who has been painting his nails since 2007, said he and his teammates began taking their attire more seriously after the NBA modified its game day dress code to “business casual” within the early 2000s. As players grew older and more comfortable, they began to attend more fashion-related events, and Wade was in a position to improve his sense of fashion.

The Hall of Fame basketball player shared his favorite game day fashion memories, including the intense pink pants he wore to the press conference and the Gucci capri pants that made headlines.

“Now people wear pink pants to golf. It’s nothing,” Wade said, proud of the risk he took. “But it was a big deal back then, wasn’t it?”

The businessman and father of 4 said that when he meets people, he immediately starts “scanning the details” and taking note of what they wear because their appearance is a transparent indication of how they handle themselves.
