The 96th Academy Awards took place on Sunday in Los Angeles, and the whole world watched the most significant moments unfold on screens. Those of us lucky enough to attend Hollywood’s biggest night got to see a couple of things that the people back home had no idea about.

Here are some things you didn’t see at the Oscars:

Stress before a performance

Many people probably had the same problem as me once they went to the Dolby Theater. In addition to the fight to alter daylight saving time and begin shows sooner than an hour earlier this yr, Ubers and limousines were delayed on account of a pro-Palestinian protest that rolled through the streets of Hollywood in the hours before the curtain rose. The red carpet was full of people wondering if the busy streets would delay the arrival of talent that was scheduled to look at the starting of the broadcast.

A warm welcome from David Alan Grier

Before the cameras rolled, the show’s announcer, David Alan Grier, took the stage to deliver a pre-show pep consult with the star-studded audience. This included a warm welcome, recommendations on welcoming speeches, and one touching tip: “Don’t screw it up!”

Warning shots

During industrial breaks, Grier made sure guests were ready for the cameras to release some hilarious updates. As stars and guests gathered at considered one of the several open bars, the comedian used a loudspeaker to hustle them back to their seats. “Thirty seconds… check what’s in your teeth” and “five minutes to get seated, just like on a Southwest Airlines flight.”

Tears all day long

When former winners, who also had personal connections to this yr’s nominees, announced the best supporting actress category, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. The entire crowd seemed moved by the heartfelt presentations, and after Da’Vine Joy Randolph won, they became much more moved. Her powerful acceptance speech brought everyone to their feet they usually began on the lookout for tissues.

(*5*)Black people at the ball

The annual Governors Ball is a spot after the exhibition that’s value visiting for good reason. This yr, the event, which offered great food corresponding to potatoes with caviar, artisan pizza and made-to-order sushi, also featured some great guests. Danielle Brooks and Colman Domingo could possibly be seen celebrating Randolph’s win, while other A-listers like Lupita Nyong’o and Erika Alexander enjoyed the music and chatted with industry insiders. Sterling K. Brown and Ryan Michele Bathe took in the scene and enjoyed fresh fish and chips before heading to their next big party.
