Marcia Fudge has just announced her resignation as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). He will step down on March 22.

Fudge delivered the message on the official HUD website. A press release shared on March 11 detailed her accomplishments with the organization within the position she has held since 2021.

“As a dedicated public servant for almost fifty years, I have been dedicated to improving the quality of life for the citizens of this nation, focusing on those who need it most,” Fudge said. “Having served at every level of government, including as mayor, then a congressional staffer, member of Congress, and now as the 18th Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, I have worked tirelessly to ensure America lives up to its promise of freedom and justice for all.” .

She continued by expressing her belief in HUD’s mission to supply inexpensive and high-quality housing across the country and expressed that her resignation was attributable to “mixed emotions.”

Fudge then cited HUD’s accomplishments, including the creation of two million public and multifamily housing units, serving greater than 1.2 million homeless people, and enforcing fair housing laws that protect against racial discrimination. The former U.S. representative also noted that in her term there was greater availability of Americans to FHA mortgage loans for home purchases.

The announcement comes as a surprise if taken into consideration President Biden’s chief of staff assured just a few days earlier that no other cabinet member would depart this yr, he claims.

Biden has since posted his own statement thanking Fudge for her work.

“I am grateful for all of her contributions to a housing system that works for all Americans, and I wish her all the best in her next chapter,” POTUS said.

As for Fudge’s future, the longtime politician said she is happy to pursue a more private lifestyle.

“Don’t expect me to ever be on another ballot or another nomination or anything like that,” she said. “I’m really looking forward to being a private citizen.”

Deputy Secretary Adrianne Todman will function acting secretary, and the White House has confirmed that Biden will name a successor.
