Coco Gauff shares her entrepreneurial dreams while reflecting on her career and life ahead of her birthday
Coco Gauff is making significant strides within the tennis world, and while she desires to remain fully immersed in the sport for now, there could also be room for a career change in the longer term.
According to Baseline, the reigning US Open champion dreams of someday pursuing entrepreneurship, drawing inspiration from two women who’ve successfully gone from world-renowned superstar in a single field to demonstrating entrepreneurship in one other. When asked who she would love to take a seat and eat a meal with, she mentioned each.
“I’m going to go with Rihanna,” she said, to listen to how the singer and entrepreneur “founded Fenty Beauty since it was one of the primary makeup brands to supply a full range of foundations for all skin tones. Gauff stated that she wanted to listen to how Rihanna “navigates the business side of things,” while noting that “obviously Beyoncé has an amazing hair brand that just came out as well.”
Gauff, who turns 20 on March 13, has gained immense popularity since making history last summer, becoming the youngest American to win the U.S. Open since Serena Williams in 1999. She appears on the April cover of Vogue and was named one of Time Magazine’s Best Americans. Women of the Year.
As she neared the tip of her teenage years, Gauff couldn’t help but reflect on how her exceptional athletic abilities modified her life and career, allowing her to satisfy many “cool people” she may not have otherwise encountered.

At a Hollywood event honoring her selection by Time, she was in the identical room as former WNBA champion Renee Montgomery, former Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn and other honorees including actress Taraji P. Henson and director Greta Gerwig.
“For me, it was really nice to be surrounded by amazing women,” she said. “I didn’t expect to be on the list, but when I found out it was a huge honor.”
While she admitted she desires to focus on tennis for now, she assured that entrepreneurship is “definitely” something she desires to pursue later in her career.
“I love beauty and fashion, so maybe there’s something in this world. But again, I didn’t brainstorm. I have no intention of starting anything anytime soon. I think I just want to focus on tennis,” Gauff said within the Baseline report. “But I would say as far as the second half of my career, I don’t know what it’s going to look like, but maybe closer to 30 that might be something I try to figure out.”
