Dwayne Johnson is honoring his origins with new skincare brand Papatui

Dwayne Johnson has many talents. He became famous as certainly one of the best wrestlers and was also an actor known for his impressive roles in motion movies, including TV series and motion movies. As of today, the 51-year-old star is also adding founding father of a skincare brand to her resume with a new line of men’s skincare and wonder products, Fix this.

“The inspiration came from years of talking to other men about my skin care routine,” Johnson tells ESSENCE via Zoom. For five years, he has been putting all his passion into constructing the brand and testing the ingredients of every product.

The line includes 12 products containing niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and ceramides, including a moisturizing face wash, a each day facial moisturizer, a refreshing body wash and more. What makes his skincare line unique is that it also includes products to assist protect tattoos; courtesy of mango butter and coconut oil in Enhancing Tattoo Stick and Enhancing Tattoo Balm.

What about a singular brand name? It is a tribute to Johnson’s father, Rocky Johnson, and late grandfather, James Henry Bowles. He explains that “Papa” means “Rock” in Samoan and that “Tui” is the nickname his grandfather gave him. “The character of Maui from Moana was based on my grandfather,” he adds.

While honoring his lineage by creating this brand, it was also vital for Johnson to interrupt down stereotypes about masculinity and skincare. “As men, we often talk about exercise, cheat meals, tequila, relationships, etc.” – says. However, Johnson wants skincare and self-care to be the norm for men as well.

In that spirit, he shares the ideas he’s learned along his journey. “Keep your skin care routine simple and easy,” says Johnson. After all, “we have one body.” Additionally, having a fantastic cologne and adding toner to his skincare routine, something he learned from his father and grandfather, is a must for him. “Taking care of myself means a lot to me,” she says. “It not only represents recovery, but it permeates the rest of your life.”
