Netflix set May 8 The release date of “Forever”, the black Rom-Com series-oriented series created, produced and written by Mara Brock Akil. The series is a recent image of Judah Blume’s book from 1975 “Forever …”, a title that was the subject of continuous control over the years as a result of the motives of teenage intimacy. According to the American Library Association, the novel by Judah Blume is number 7 on the list “100 most frequently questioned books from 1990–1999”.

The series will update and modernize the original story. For example, “Forever”, a series, takes place in Los Angeles in 2018, while the book was set in New Jersey, probably in 1975, where the predominant characters, Michael Wagner and Katherine Danzinger, were white teenagers.

Showrunner and executive producer Brock Akil talked to Netflix about why Los Angeles was chosen as the background of the series adaptation.

“Is there a better metaphor for this love story than what La represents, not only for me, but for many people. You are looking for a place to follow your dreams, and love is part of it – said Brock Akil. Brock Akil is known for creating other romantic comedies that have become part of a black cultural conversation about love on the screen in “Girlfriends” UPN and “Being Mary Jane”.

In the series, the two predominant characters are black teenagers, Justin Edwards (Michael Cooper, Jr.) and Keisha Clark (Lovie Simone). History focuses on two teenagers who discover love and relationship, which might not be ready to come to a decision to find. Wood Harris, Karen Pittman, Xosha Roquemore, Marvin Winans III and others also appear in the series.

Brock Akil is happy to revive this story in a brand new form, because Blume’s book “Forever …” is one of its favorite books.

“I always assigned Judy Blume as part of my voice spice as a writer. She was one of the first writers I read that I dared to be honest about human condition in young people and you can see traces of her writing style in my own. “

The series is produced by Brock Akil, Judy Blume, Regina King and her sister Reina King.

The premiere of “Forever” at Netflix on May 8, 2025.
