On the first day of his second term of office, the president Donald Trump signed a contract Executive Order eliminating programs of diversity, own capital and inclusion (DEI) throughout the entire federal government. Calling them “illegal and immoral discrimination programs”, Trump formulated the decision as a return to what he described as “a society based on merits.”
In an order entitled “End of radical and prodigal government programs and preferences” Trump accused former President Joe Biden of supporting discrimination in all “virtually all aspects of the federal government” by promoting the initiatives of diversity.
The implications of this order are already felt. According to note From the Office of Personnel Management, all federal employees working in the roles of Dei are to be placed on a paid administrative leave until Wednesday evening at 17:00. Department and agencies must also prepare plans for a everlasting snapshot of offices, remove related web sites and social media, and dismiss employees until January 31.
“President Trump conducted a campaign on the end of the DEI plague from our federal government and turning America to a society based on merication, in which people are employed on the basis of their skills, not on the color of the skin,” said the press secretary of the White House Karoline Leavitt, adding: “This is another win for Americans of all breeds, religion and religion. Promises made, promises preserved. “
Time of the Order for Martin Luther’s day King Jr. He drew acute criticism from civil support supporters, a lot of whom perceive him as directly next to Dr. King’s legacy and many years of labor for racial equality. Reverend Al Sharpton, president of the National Action Network, turned to the crowd at the Metropolitan Ame Church, the historic black churches simply blocks from the White House to sentence this movement.
“Why do we have Dei?” Sharpton asked. “We have Dei because you refused us a variety, you refused us to fit us, you refused us to include. Dei was a medicine for a racial institutional bigotry practiced in the academic environment and in these corporations. “
On Tuesday, Trump signed one other order focused on various practices of employment in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The administration claims that these initiatives punish “hard -working Americans who want to serve in FAA, but are unable to do it because they lack the required disability or skin color.”
These early activities are a continuation of Trump’s previous efforts to demolish Dei policy. In 2020, he signed an executive order prohibiting training in the DEI case in federal agencies. President Joe Biden quickly reversed this order during his first days of office, emphasizing the need for racial justice in government operations.
For many, this deal with the dismantling of Dei shouldn’t be only a change in politics, but a deeper ideological battle for the role of breed and equality in American institutions. By eliminating these programs, Trump signaled sharp turnover from gradual progress in the direction of the inclusion of achieved over the past many years.
