Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Ne-Yo has “nice” critics reviewing his decisions in his personal life, especially his decision to adopt a polyamorous lifestyle following his divorce from Crystal Renay.

The R&B star, known for hits corresponding to “Miss Independent” and “Good Man”, doesn’t draw back from controversy surrounding her non-monogamy.

But in a recent episode of the Gold Dimes podcast, he spoke candidly in regards to the backlash he’s received since going public in April 2024 with his two girlfriends.

Meanwhile, the daddy of seven was spotted with his girlfriend at The Grove shopping center in Los Angeles. Walking hand in hand with each women, Ne-Yo didn’t hold back when talking to a TMZ reporter about his approach to alternative relationships. In part he said, “You should let people do regardless of the hell they need. I do not see the way it hurts anyone.

During a recent interview with Gold Dimes, Ne-yo was less diplomatic, breaking down his self-consciousness following his split from Renay, the mother of his three children.

“It’s no secret to anyone that I was recently divorced,” the singer said.

“I’ve learned certain things since the divorce,” he said, adding, “and thru the divorce, truthfully… I’ve realized certain things about myself that I kind of had an idea about, but not completely closed off about. And now that I’ve done it, I realize how much time I wasted… on silly shit.

Ne-Yo further reiterated the concept of being honest with yourself in front of another person.

“If you know you’re not a guy who will be faithful to one woman, then don’t be with one woman. It really and truly is that simple,” the Arkansas native said.

To those that criticize his lifestyle selection: him further on “Gold Dimes”: “I really hope this podcast reaches trillions of people because I so desperately need the world to know how much I don’t care what they think (or) what they say.”

The singer added: “I am 100% locked in the reality that this life is mine and I (am going to) live it the way I want.”

When is the Jasmine brand sent from the interview excerpt, it seems that fans had few questions beyond saying they were drained of hearing about his, Cam Newton and Nick Cannon’s lives.

“Does he even make music anymore? That’s all I’ve ever seen him speak about,” one person asked.

Another asked: “I wonder if he didn’t have what he has, would girls still choose him?”

A 3rd comment titled nonsense about his statement: “He obviously feels some way if he has to constantly defend himself about this situation!”

One of the loudest voices criticizing the star is life coach and psychologist Dr. Cheyenne Bryant, who recently dubbed him for being a “womanizer” on Fox Soul’s “Truth Talks” earlier this week.

“He’s a womanizer,” she said. “He cheated on his wife several times. … Now, as a womanizer, he deceives himself and this wife to make it seem like he wants polyamory when you never wanted polyamory to begin with.”

Dr. Bryant further stated that the “Hate That I Love You” singer lacked “discipline” and that’s the reason his marriage was not successful and his wife left him.

Interestingly, Renay rarely mentions her ex, who welcomed two children with one other woman during their marriage. Even though she doesn’t “understand the culture” that Ne-Yo has adopted, she wishes him the perfect.

“I mean, if it makes you happy, I’m happy for you,” the “Bold and Bougie” star said on “The Culture Club Uncensored.” In an interview, she explained that she was “blinded” by his infidelity and at one point didn’t recognize the person she married.

“Because it felt like my previous marriage, I was living with a stranger because the person I was in love with is not the person she is now,” Crystal said. “And no shade, no disrespect, but it’s a scary feeling, so I don’t ever want to be blinded again like I was in the past.”

Renay and the singer’s divorce was finalized in February 2023, after almost eight years of marriage. From this union come three of his seven children: Shaffer Chimere Jr., 9; Roman Aleksander-Raj, 6 years old; and Izabela Róża, 3.

Ne-Yo has two children from a relationship before Renay: Madilyn Grace (14) and Mason Evan (13). He also has two sons with the ex-girlfriend with whom he cheated on his wife, Sade Bagnerise: Braiden, 3, and Brixton, 1.

None of his recent girlfriends have children with him.
