Flavor Flav says his “spirit was broken” after NBC forced him to leave the Backstreet Boys dressing room at Rockefeller Tree Lighting
Rapper Flavor Flav is well-known for his charismatic personality, which has recently charmed a brand new generation together with his ubiquitous clock. After radiating a fun, supportive vibe throughout the 2024 Paris Olympics and beyond, the rapper and his social media followers were horrified when the same network that exclusively broadcasts international sports competitions reportedly mistreated the rapper during Rockefeller tree lighting.
On December 4, Flavor Flav attended NBC’s annual Christmas Celebration at Rockefeller Center in New York City. In a now-deleted post, the iconic rapper shared his lower than completely satisfied experience with online security when he visited the Backstreet Boys backstage at an event.
“I feel weird,” wrote Flavor Flav on X. “I was invited to Rockefeller Tree Lighting (tonight) and was escorted to see my boys… We were backstage of their dressing room, (when) security got here up to me and said “NBC doesn’t want me in this area and I have to leave.”
“At the same time(,) a woman from social media approached them and asked to capture social content,” he continued. “What have I ever done for NBC or anyone(?). All I ever do is spread joy and love(,) and I think I did that for NBC at the Olympics.”
After deleting his first post, Flavor Flav made one other decision on Xexplaining that although he has removed the position, his “spirit is breaking” in light of the incident.
“I posted something last night and quickly deleted it,” he explained separate post. “I was embarrassed by some of the words and actions of the security guards who attacked each other. The situation was handled poorly and I didn’t realize how many people would care. Thank you all for the love and this (is) the season to spread love and joy.”
Following Flavor Flav’s initial posts, many fans reacted on social media, criticizing NBC for its reported treatment of the rapper.
I’m so sorry this happened to you.” wrote one among the X users. “@nbc was wrong and your boys (Backstreet Boys) should have spoken up.” Flavor Flav explained that this was what the boy band members did speak for him at this time.
Added one other“Anyway @nbc you all should be ashamed of yourselves. You shamelessly used Flav to gain ratings at the ()Olympics and he wasn’t good enough to be backstage? Total crap and deserves a public apology!”
As theGrio previously reported, Flavor Flav was Team USA’s unofficial hype man for the 2024 Olympics. Whether he was cheering from the stands or financially supporting Olympians like Veronica Fraley and the U.S. women’s water polo team, the rapper enjoyed his first experience a lot that he hopes to serve in an official role at the 2028 Olympics.
Ultimately, maintaining a positive spirit, Flavor Flav emphasized that he didn’t want his experience at Rockefeller Center to diminish “everyone’s hard work.”
“Jennifer Hudson Smashed it…that’s my girl…I stayed and watched Backstreet Boys from (the) side (of the stage) when it started snowing,” he wrote on Twitter, sharing a video of the performance from the side. “And I have to say, Howie D is one of the BEST guys in the music industry, really good people, you know, and if you don’t catch us on Main Street, catch us on Backstreet!”
