Zoë Kravitz and YSL Beauty are almost synonymous. Already in 2017, the actress and director was appointed as the director of the house Global Ambassador. Then the face and spokesperson of their famous fragrance: Black opiuma 12 months later. Now, just in time for the holidays, Kravitz and YSL Beauty present us with the latest version of the classic eau de parfum with the scent of coffee and flowers: Black opium glitter.
The seasonal version of the historic fragrance, which first appeared on the market in 1977 with notes of patchouli and vanilla, focuses on the marshmallow musk accord. “I love the sweetness and earthiness,” says ESSENCE of warm gourmets. From coffee and vanilla bourbon (just like MYSLF le parfum’s men’s fragrance) to orange blossom, “the notes are so beautiful and complex,” she says. “It’s a different take on something so classic and iconic.”
Beyond this exciting moment, “I’m a huge fan of the brand and have been for a really long time,” Kravitz explains. “I think their approach to beauty has always been more about expression and confidence than the idea of being beautiful for a man.Instead, the intention behind YSL Beauty is women-centric. “It’s really about making us stronger.”
These ideals actually align with Kravitz’s beliefs, as she draws her beauty inspiration from “individual women and strong thinkers” resembling her mother, Lisa Bonet, Nina Simone, and Patti Smith.
Speaking of inspiration, especially during the winter months, Kravitz can often be found at home writing and listening to music. But what really keeps her grounded? Being still. “I feel like when I was younger, before phones were everywhere, I spent so much time doing nothing,” she says. “there are always good ideas and revelations there.” Of course, spraying Black Opium Glitter won’t hurt either. After all, “it’s so fun, sexy, fun and adventurous.”
