New research shows that Gen Z is using artificial intelligence for most tasks – especially at work
Artificial intelligence is progressively taking on the workforce, starting with Generation Z.
A brand new study shows that many Gen Z knowledge staff are turning to AI to finish their tasks, signaling a trend that will likely spread across the workforce.
On November 25, Google Workspace released a survey highlighting that a growing variety of leaders are implementing artificial intelligence (AI) to affect the workplace. Research shows that 82% of “young leaders” already use AI tools of their work, and 98% expect AI to have a major impact on their industry or workplace in the subsequent five years.
“Our research shows that emerging leaders are adopting AI to increase their impact at work,” said Yulie Kwon Kim, vp of product at Google Workspace. “Emerging leaders are not only using AI as a productivity tool, but also as a catalyst to help advance their careers.”
The study, commissioned by Google Workspace and conducted by The Harris Poll, surveyed greater than 1,000 American knowledge staff aged 22-39, all of whom currently hold or aspire to leadership positions at work (“young leaders”). The study found that AI will transform the workforce, with 93% of young Gen Z leaders and 79% of young Millennial leaders reporting that they use at least two AI tools per week. Additionally, over 50% of AI users often share their experiences and insights with colleagues, and 75% recommend generative AI tools to their colleagues.
“The future of work is already here and it is powered by artificial intelligence,” said Kwon Kim. “Emerging leaders aren’t just advocating for AI — they’re implementing the technology in meaningful ways, from improving communication with colleagues to freeing up time for strategic work.”
The study showed how employees are using artificial intelligence to extend productivity and improve communication. For example, 70% use AI for tasks reminiscent of drafting email responses, writing complex emails from scratch, or overcoming language barriers. Eighty-eight percent use AI to tackle overwhelming tasks, and the identical percentage credit AI for helping them use the correct tone in written communications.
Additionally, 90% say they would not mind joining meetings on the go if AI took notes for them. The study shows the growing importance of AI-based tools for distant and hybrid staff.
The data also highlights the strong link between using generative AI and increased productivity in team collaboration, effective communication and leadership. The findings show how artificial intelligence might help staff complete tasks faster and more efficiently, while changing the way in which they approach their work.
With Google investing billions for artificial intelligence, a brand new study strengthens the tech giant’s case for the growing influence of artificial intelligence.
