We know we want rest, but straight away Black women haven’t any alternative but to care for it.

Over the previous couple of years, we have now experienced many (pandemic, diseases, losses, economy) and most recently turbulent and traumatic political elections. Although the present elections began with hope for a brand new, positive tomorrow, unfortunately they ultimately resulted in a difficult defeat.

However, regardless that lots of us felt discouraged and depressed in regards to the state of our country’s future, our bodily autonomy and, most significantly, our safety, we decided to prioritize ways to find rest despite the stress and anxiety.

As you might have seen on social media currently. On TikTok specifically, Black women across the country are calling on themselves and their peers to stop engaging within the minutiae of politics and as an alternative rest, reflect, put down their burdens and tune out the noise about politics and beyond, a lot in order that a National Day was created Black Women’s Rest.

Today, December 2, 2024, can be December 2, 2024 National Black Women’s Day of Resta day to give attention to restorative rest to once more find the enjoyment we, truthfully, deserve. National Black Women’s Day of Rest reminds us that we deserve deep rest without constant pressure to be productive. It also serves as a chance to decentralize the needs of everyone around us and unabashedly give attention to our own.

Additionally, this holiday gives us an area to honor ourselves and be pleased about how far we have now come and what we’ll proceed to do for ourselves and the broader community, while emphasizing that we deserve rest just because we exist. Here’s how to enjoy this holiday and prioritize rest:

Communicate your boundaries: It may be very essential to let your employer and family members know that you simply are selecting to take at the present time dedicated to self-love and self-care. From there, you may establish healthy boundaries around communication and limit your every day workload. If possible, delegate your every day responsibilities to a trusted community member or postpone them altogether.

Develop a schedule: If you are like me, it’s easiest to keep things going if you will have a set schedule. Instead of developing an intensive work-based plan, base it on self-care. To start, schedule an at-home spa session, a delicate hike, and a nail appointment!

Disconnect completely: If you do not feel like doing anything in your break day, no problem. Use this time to disconnect, turn off your phone, get some sleep, or benefit from the silence at home.

While we’re used to showing up for others, let’s challenge ourselves to be holistic and unapologetic.
