‘The Dark Knight’ star Michael Caine fell in love with his future wife after seeing the 26-year-old model in a coffee ad on TV

Acclaimed British actor Sir Michael Caine (91) is best known for his roles in movies comparable to “The Dark Knight” and “Inception”. His real love life also makes for a fascinating story.

Caine married British-Guyanese model and actress Shakira Caine (née Baksh) in January 1973. He was then 40 years old and his future wife was 26 years old.

During an interview on “The Jonathan Ross Show” in 2018, Michael talked about how he initially discovered Shakira in Maxwell House TV ad over fifty years ago.

“I saw this lady on TV in a commercial and I immediately fell in love with her,” Michael explained to Ross. “It was a coffee ad in Brazil.”

He added: “I told my friend: ‘We’re going to Brazil in the morning. We will find her.” However, considered one of Michael’s friends informed him that Shakira actually lives on Fulham Road in London, England.

Michael managed to get Shakira’s phone number from a mutual friend. After first rejecting him, she finally went on a date with a Londoner.

“He was every little thing I didn’t expect. I just saw him in ‘Get Carter’ and he seemed so aggressive and ruthless,” Shakira expressed in 1976 People Magazine cover story.

The Miss World 1967 beauty pageant contestant continued: “Instead, I found her charming and very gentle, someone I would like to spend part of my life with.”

Michael played fictional gangster Jack Carter in the Mike Hodges-directed drama set in London. The film was based on the 1970 novel “Jack’s Return Home” by British creator Ted Lewis.

After marrying on January 8, 1973 in Las Vegas, Michael and Shakira had a daughter named Natasha Caine later that 12 months.

Shakira is Michael’s second wife. The two-time Oscar winner was married to actress Patricia Haines from 1954 to 1958. In 1956, his first daughter, Dominique Caine, was born.

In his 2018 memoir, “Blowing the Bloody Doors Off,” Michael credited his relationship with Shakira and being the parent of their child with a few of his positive, life-changing decisions.

“Thanks to a huge stroke of luck, Shakira got here into my life just in time. The empty feeling disappeared and she took up my case,” Michael wrote in the book, according to People.

He also wrote: “To make matters worse, she got pregnant, and I used to be given a second likelihood at fatherhood and soon straightened out. I completely gave up alcohol for a 12 months and now I not drink during the day, and I only drink wine with dinner.

Michael and Shakira have been married for 51 years. Over these fifty years, Michael appeared in dozens of movies, apparently with his spouse by his side on the set.

“My wife accompanies me in all my movies, but she’s not a movie star accessory or anything like that,” Michael said in an interview Mirror. “She is the other half of me. Besides, we are still very much in love with each other. We always have been, we always will be.”

Shakira has also appeared in movies. The 1967 Miss Guyana pageant winner starred in movies comparable to 1969’s “Some Girls Do It,” 1974’s “Son of Dracula” and 1975’s “The Man Who Would Be King.”

Caine explained to The Mirror that he was never tempted to step outside of his marriage and do love scenes with so many attractive actresses.

“It might have been a great temptation, so I made a decision I might never marry a woman who wasn’t as beautiful as the woman I worked with. And I married a woman who is definitely more beautiful than most of the women I actually have worked with, so all the temptation was at home, not at work,” Michael told The Mirror.
