His death was attributed to complications of pneumonia. When he died in his hometown of Chicago, he was hospitalized for several weeks. However, as many fans learned when his transition was announced, Mac suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease.

This condition causes the organs to grow. In Mac’s case, his lungs and immune system were severely affected.

In his absence, his daughter Je’Niece McCullough spoke to Haddish about her father’s legacy in “Black Comedy in America.” Part of their conversation was revealed in a promotional clip shared on social media days before the series premiere.

McCullough recalls: “His health had been failing for years before he finally got sick, so for the last four years of his life” Mac was on oxygen. During this time, he filmed several of his final projects, which included the final seasons of “The Bernie Mac Show,” “Soul Men” with Samuel L. Jackson and “Ocean’s Thirteen.”

Mac’s appearance also modified noticeably as he was swollen, a side effect of the steroids used to treat the condition.

McCullough further explained, “The situation was so serious that his doctor said, ‘You don’t have to do it right now, but we’re going to have to consider a lung transplant,’ because sarcoidosis had destroyed his lungs so much that he was really operating on the capacity of one lung.”

In his final moments, the “Friday” movie star needed a ventilator because he was having difficulty respiratory. The short clip became successful with fans on Instagram, especially those affected by sarcoidosis.

“The day I discovered Bernie died of Scarquitosis, I cried all day. I do know the suffering he went through,” we read in a single of them comment. Countless others have paid tribute to Mac’s comedic genius. “IN MY OPINION HE WAS AND STILL IS THE KING OF COMEDY… I LOVE ME SOME MAC,” wrote one other fan.

Several others expressed dissatisfaction with Haddish’s involvement. One critic wrote: “Gotta be careful for this series. I’m not a fan of Haddish, but I’ll watch it anyway. Another joked: “Having Tiffany do it was definitely a choice.”

When the series premieres on October 15, there’s sure to be much more commentary as The Original Kings of Comedy, Steve Harvey, Cedric The Entertainer and DL Hughley reunite to speak about their very own journeys in comedy and the legacy that they created. created using a Mac while on tour.

When Harvey and the late comedian had a falling out, fans never let Harvey silence the accusation that he was jealous of Mac’s profession.
