Denzel Washington surprised when young fan asks how to become a ‘gangster’ like him, fans say the actor’s answer was everything

Denzel Washington (69) is considered one of the most recognized actors of the last fifty years. The two-time Oscar winner probably has a wealth of data about show business and life on the whole.

The query was asked of Washington Reporter Liam Kid on Virgin Radio’s ‘Daryn & Deepa’ while walking the red carpet for the international premiere of ‘The Piano Lesson’ at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival in the restored clip.

“Hi, I’m Liam. I hear American Gangster is a good movie. How can I be a Canadian gangster?” – asked the 8-year-old Washington correspondent.

The legendary Hollywood actor responded: “You shouldn’t be a gangster. You’re too smart to be a gangster. What is your favorite (school) subject?” Then he guessed that Liam liked math and science.

After Liam, who’s of Asian descent, confirmed that he liked math and wanted to study medicine, Washington said: “It’s higher to be a doctor than a gangster. OK? I never want to be a gangster.

Internet users did not have much to say about Denzel’s advice for preschoolers. Source Liam’s interview with the entertainment icon was reposted on the store’s Instagram page, and the comments section was full of reactions.

“Why did I feel like Denzel sounded like a gangster when he said that?” one person asked about the exchange on the TIFF red carpet between Washington and Liam. The answer was, “Because he’s a nice gangster.”

Another fan wrote: “Denzel is here, saving the planet one generation at a time and still making (fiery) movies!!!” A 3rd joked: “Denzel just stereotyped a math kid? Science?”

Liam also received praise. For example, someone commented, “The undeniable fact that he was ready says a lot about him. Good job, young man.

There were also Washington-centric comments suggesting that Liam likes math. For example, an Instagram user joked, “We all considered math. I do know why you said it, Denzel.

Washington starred as New York drug kingpin Frank Lucas in the 2007 biographical crime drama “American Gangster.” The forged of the Ridley Scott-directed film also includes Russell Crowe, Josh Brolin, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ruby Dee, Cuba Gooding Jr., Idris Elba, Common and Tip “TI” Harris.

“American Gangster” grossed over $269 million worldwide. The late Ruby Dee earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the eightieth Academy Awards in 2008 for her role as Mama Lucas. She lost to Tilda Swinton in “Michael Clayton”.

Additionally, production designer Arthur Max and director Beth A. Rubino were nominated in the Best Production Design category. Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo won the award for “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.”

Denzel Washington is best known for taking part in inspirational movie characters akin to black revolutionary Malcolm X in “Malcolm X” and highschool football coach Herman Boone in “Remember the Titans.”

However, Washington seemed to have turned to the dark side to portray more nefarious characters, akin to heroin dealer Lucas in “American Gangster” and corrupt cop Alonzo Harris in “Training Day.”

Washington’s portrayal of Alonzo Harris in the later film earned him his second Academy Award at the 74th Academy Awards in 2002. He previously won a trophy for best supporting actor in 1990 for his role as Private Silas Trip in the Civil War film “Glory.”

Malcolm Washington, Denzel’s 33-year-old son, directed The Piano Lesson, a film adaptation of August Wilson’s 1987 play of the same name. Denzel and his 37-year-old daughter Katia Washington are producers of the film, which is about in 1936.

“The Piano Lesson” is a whole-family project. Denzel’s other son, John David Washington, 40, stars as Boy Willie Charles. The former Morehouse College football player’s 74-year-old mother, Pauletta Washington, and Malcolm’s twin sister, Olivia Washington, also appear in the film.

“This film is very personal to me, and the people I made it with are the closest people to me in my life,” said Malcolm People at the Telluride Film Festival in September. “My mother was at the center of things.”

The premiere of “The Piano Lesson” is scheduled for November 8 in chosen American cinemas, and broadcast on Netflix from November 22. The forged also includes Samuel L. Jackson, Ray Fisher, Danielle Deadwyler, Michael Potts and Corey Hawkins.
