Google co-founder and former Alphabet CEO Sergey Brin said he returns to work at Google “almost every day” because he hasn’t seen anything as exciting because the recent advances in artificial intelligence — and he doesn’t wish to miss it.

Brin revealed this tidbit in interview at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles this week. Last yr, several publications reported that Brin has returned to Google HQ to work on various AI projects, but that is the primary time Brin has publicly commented on his return.

“It’s a huge, rapidly evolving field,” Brin said of AI, adding that it has “enormous value to humanity” before explaining why he doesn’t think training more efficient AI would require massive scaling of computing power.

“I’ve read some papers that extrapolate (the calculations) … and I’m not sure I’m entirely convinced,” he said, “partly because the algorithmic improvements that have come about in the last few years are perhaps even outpacing the increased computational power that’s being put into these models.”
