While Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s firstborn daughter, Blue Ivy, quickly became a fan favorite after appearing as a nightly dancer on her mother’s Renaissance World Tour, Beyoncé now admits that she originally didn’t want her daughter to join her on stage. In a recent interview with GQ“Cowboy Carter” singer spoke about her 12-year-old daughter’s innate strength.

“Blue is an artist. She has great taste in music and fashion. She’s a fantastic editor, painter and actress,” she said in an interview. “She’s been creating characters since she was three. She’s a natural, but I didn’t want Blue to be on stage.”

As theGrio previously reported, Beyoncé initially shared her concerns about her daughter’s performance in Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé . While the mother-of-three felt dancing in front of 1000’s of individuals was no place for a baby, Blue Ivy was determined to not only show up, but show up for the Beyhive. So much in order that after her first stage performance, the 12-year-old used the negative feedback on social media as motivation to train harder.

“Blue wanted this for herself. She took it seriously and she earned it. And most importantly, she had fun! We all watched her grow more and more every night before our eyes,” Beyoncé added.

“She was born into a life she didn’t ask for. So from the moment she was born, she’s been under the microscope and the spotlight, and everyone has an opinion on even a little girl, how she takes care of her hair,” Jay-Z previously said while singing his daughter’s praises. “So there’s no better script for her to stand on that stage and take her power back — and the song is called ‘My Power.’”

But Blue Ivy’s interest in being a mother comes as no surprise to the international superstar. Juggling multiple roles and responsibilities, Beyoncé keeps motherhood at the highest of her list of priorities, taking her children together with her wherever she goes.

“(My kids) come to my office after school and they’re in the studio with me. They’re in dance rehearsals. It’s natural for them to learn my choreography,” she explained. “I work around my family. I try to tour only when my kids aren’t in school. I’ve always dreamed of a life where I could travel the world with my family and expose them to different languages, architecture and lifestyles.”

In addition to Blue Ivy, Beyoncé and Jay-Z share seven-year-old twins Sir and Rumi.

“Raising three children is not easy. As they get older, they become more and more of their own individuals with unique needs, hobbies and social lives,” the Cécred haircare founder admitted. “My twins were sent by God. Raising children constantly teaches you about yourself. It takes a lot of prayer and patience. I love it. It’s grounding and fulfilling.”

While her kids may at all times be together with her backstage, the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer is adamant about maintaining a certain level of privacy and protecting them from the highlight.

“One of the things I’ve worked really hard on is trying to give my kids as much normalcy and privacy as possible, and not make my personal life a brand. It’s so easy for celebrities to turn our lives into performance art,” she added. “I’ve done my best to stay true to my boundaries and protect myself and my family. No amount of money is worth my peace of mind.”
