DC’s Newest Black-Owned Ice Cream Shop

Less than 10 miles from the Washington, DC area in downtown Silver Spring is Lil’ Sumthin’ Sweet. It’s the most recent black-owned ice cream and dessert shop to assist satisfy your sugar cravings.

The co-owners founded A Lil’ Sumthin’ Sweet Bar with an easy mission: to create delicious, high-quality baked goods that bring joy to customers, using the best ingredients.

“Our business is based on excellent service, high-quality products and social involvement,” said co-owner Camilia Yelp MD Burbs. “We started getting involved in the community, bringing joy to those around us, and adding a little sweetness to people’s lives. Serving cakes, pies, cookies, brownies, and farm-fresh ice cream, we have something for everyone.”⁠

The menu is split into three sections: “Sumthin’ Special”, “Sumthin’ Scooped” and “Sumthin’ Extra”.

Sumthin’ Scooped is a nod to ice cream, with greater than 16 flavors. The original flavors are vanilla, strawberry, chocolate chip cookie dough and butter pecan. But the restaurant stands out with just a few creative and other delicious flavors, including apple pie, coconut joy, blueberry cheesecake and orange pineapple — to call just a few.

On the Sumthin’ Sweet menu, guests will find other sweet treats like cakes, tarts and cookies, in addition to seasonal offerings like crumbles and banana pudding.

Sumthin’ Extra’s menu includes waffles, milkshakes, ice cream nachos and ice cream sandwiches.

“If you’ve never had nachos with ice cream before, this is your chance,” Camilia said.

Nachos with ice cream are served with two scoops of ice cream, wafer pieces and your selection of toppings corresponding to caramel sauce, cookie dough pieces and sprinkles.

The dessert shop opened at 8563 Fenton Street, in the previous home of Smoothie King. Lil’ Sumthin’ Sweet is open every day from 11 a.m. to eight p.m.
