Shaunie Henderson blocks out social media noise as her husband, Pastor Keion Henderson, returns to the pulpit after asking church members to donate $2,100 each

Shaunie Henderson is taking proactive measures after social media skeptics are silenced. She and her husband, Pastor Keion Henderson, are returning to worship at The Lighthouse Church.

Keion drew backlash and criticism after going viral along with his appeal to his congregation, asking “2,100 people to donate $2,100 each” to help rebuild the Houston-based church’s north campus, which suffered significant damage July 8 when Hurricane Beryl struck the city.

Though the requests were controversial, the donations were made as the couple posted updates on social media as they returned to the renovated constructing. Keion previously said the constructing was insured, but said, “We can’t wait for the insurance company to do this.”

On Saturday, August 31, Shaunie posted a video to Instagram showing herself fulfilling her “first lady” duties, placing towels on guest seats and declaring she was “ready to go.”

Although the caption for the video read, “I’LL SEE MY LIGHTHOUSE FAMILY TOMORROW!!!” and was meant to welcome the gathering, Henderson didn’t want the negative comments on her posts, of which there have been few, to appear on social media.

Some fans who could comment Shaunie’s post wondered how the church managed to reopen so quickly after a lot destruction, and where the money got here from.

“Wow they fixed it so fast, God is amazing,” one person said, while one other added, “I guess you paid for it” — assuming Shaunie used her own money.

A 3rd asked directly: “Did you collect the four million dollars?”

As previously reported, Pastor Keion’s initial request for a $4.4 million gift was intended not only to repair damage to the North Campus constructing, but additionally to provide funds for “a fresh start and a larger house of faith.”

“God gave me a vision and said we can do it in 21 days. I’m asking 2,100 people to donate $2,100 in the next 21 days,” Keion said at the time.

He also revealed a dream he had several months earlier about wanting to expand the church. Neither side mentioned whether, or how much, donations were used to reopen the church on September 1.

Keion’s net value is estimated at $8 million, while his wife Shaunie’s is estimated at $35 million. The Out of the Harbor fund was quickly criticized on social media, earning Keion the label of a “fraudster.”

In a video shared on the YouTube channel “My Husband Is My Best Friend,” viewers commented on how the pastor begged for financial support.

Several suggested that Shaunie’s ex-husband and father of her children, Shaquille O’Neal, might be the source of the funds. One commenter wrote, “She has enough $ to pay for the damages. They shouldn’t have any problems, let her spend some of Shaq’s $.”

While social media continued to accuse her husband of being a “cheater,” Shaunie posted a video in an attempt to share “positive energy and self-love.”

Two days after his request, Shaunie shared the following in an Instagram video of herself walking around the backstage area: quote: “You are not responsible for anyone else’s distorted perception of you. Stand strong in your truth and light.”

Pastor Henderson’s first live sermon at Lighthouse Church on September 1 was titled, “Waiting for victory.”
