If you wish to get that glow out of your skincare routine, join the club. Whether you’re already slathering a pea-sized amount of serum in your skin, adding sunscreen, or using a hydrating essence, sometimes you simply want your skin to have an additional glow.
There is glycolic acid which increases brightness, hyaluronic acid which adds moisture to the skin, red light therapy which increases collagen and lots of others which help create a glow for the skin. But those with sensitive skin should consider mandelic acid because it is becoming the forefront of skincare acids.
Dr. Fred WeksbergMD, certified dermatologist Dermapuretells ESSENCE all about this popular acid and its helpful effect on the skin’s natural glow.
What is almond acid?
“Mandelic acid is an AHA derived from bitter almonds,” Dr. Weksberg tells ESSENCE. “Mandelic acid removes dead skin cells. It can improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and compared to other AHAs, it’s gentler on the skin.”
What are the advantages of almond acid?
Dr. Weksberg notes that mandelic acid can improve skin texture and reduce the looks of nice lines and wrinkles. People with sensitive skin may profit from using mandelic acid on their skin since it is “more gentle on the skin compared to other AHAs.”
Another advantage of Mandelic Acid is that it is nice for dark skin tones, because it helps treat dark spots and discoloration. “Its exfoliating action gradually lightens discolorations.”
Can Mandelic Acid be used on all skin types?
Mandelic acid is gentle enough to work on all skin types, especially sensitive skin, says Dr. Weksberg. She also notes that individuals with oily or pimples-prone skin can use mandelic acid to “control sebum production.” It also has a light exfoliation that’s gentle enough for sensitive and mature skin.
