Watch: Lori Lightfoot on Why Women Are Uniting Around Kamala Harris
“Women from all walks of life are rallying around her, they’re very enthusiastic about her candidacy, and honestly, because this happened in 2016, I’m hearing from a lot of women, ‘We’re not going to let this happen again.’”
Harris is the second woman in our country’s history — after former Senator Hillary Clinton — to be nominated for president by a significant party. Now she’s poised to change into America’s first Black woman and first South Asian American chief executive.
“We know we have been cut off from leadership for too long,” Lightfoot said.
According to a recent Economist/YouGov pollHarris is attracting votes from women; she leads by 13 percentage points amongst registered voters, with 51% saying they intend to vote for her, compared with 38% who said they supported the Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump.
“I think there’s a determination, there’s an enthusiasm — but also a clear understanding — of what it’s going to take to get this project done by November, to cross the threshold, to break through that final glass ceiling once and for all,” Lightfoot said.
