Travis Kelce’s ex-girlfriend Kayla Nicole slammed by fans for revealing healing process following two-year split from Chiefs player

The end of Kayla Nicole and NFL star Travis Kelce’s relationship became public within the second half of 2022.

The former couple were together on and off for five years, although many believed they were headed towards marriage sooner or later.

The three-time Super Bowl winner has been dating pop star Taylor Swift because the summer of 2023. While their relationship still appears to be in good condition, Kelce is the last item on Nicole’s mind lately.

The TV sports correspondent and fitness influencer spoke candidly with Life & Style Weekly on August 9 about how she dealt along with her public breakup and what helped her within the healing process.

“I think if I’ve learned anything, it’s that you just laugh it off. Life never has to be that serious. My new answer now is, ‘I’ve never been through a breakup. I’ve been single my whole life… that’s never happened.'” Nicole he joked.

She also said that her split from Kelce was “previous history” and admitted that she had some feelings in the course of the split.

“I think when you go through a breakup, and everyone can relate to that, you feel like your life is over and the world is ending and nothing will ever be the same…you’ll never be happy again,” Nicole explained. But you shall be, you actually shall be. There’s light at the top of the tunnel. You just should keep putting one foot in front of the opposite.”

Instead of dwelling on the past, Nicole said she prioritizes self-care and pursuing her business ventures. She also suggested that embracing her personal freedom has helped her in her healing process.

“I’m definitely dating, but I’m not in a relationship,” she said. “I think I’m just enjoying my independence. I have this lovely bachelorette party house, and it’s just me and my two dogs. I don’t really need male energy invading that space and my time. I have a lot on my plate right now. So I’m really enjoying focusing on myself and building my brand and my businesses and just having fun.”

The avid traveller added that she would love to be more private about her next relationship and never share every little thing about it with the world online.

The 32-year-old also opened about what she expects from her next partner, saying she desires to stay away from the standard man she dated prior to now.

“I’m open to trying new things. My type right now is someone with great character, loves his family, 6’5″,” Nicole laughed, before adding that she wants a person who is set and really direct.

“Nothing physical, that changed over time. I’m really open to anyone who’s just a good, loving, down-to-earth, fun person that I can have a good time with,” she continued.

Fans reacted strongly to Nicole’s interview, with some criticizing her for not fully dealing along with her romance with Kelce.

“Where are all her crazy fans saying she’s moved on?? This woman needs therapy!!! Move on. Period,” one person commented.

“Healing from WHAT?!?? It’s been over two years? You’ve posted every single detail and thing about your relationship and life and now you’re private? You photoshop everything and I have scary stories about you and yet… just wow. Girl. You’ve been contradicting yourself with your actions this entire interview,” one other critic commented on YouTube.

“How embarrassing for her,” wrote an Instagram user he wrote.

“She needs to forget about Travis. He’s in love with Taylor and she’s not on the same level as them. I’m sure millions of people don’t even know who she is,” one other social media user wrote.

The exact reason Kelce and Nicole split in 2022 stays unclear. At the time, rumors circulated that Kelce had been unfaithful, while others suggested that the NFL player was not generous with money.

The Chiefs’ point guard has struck down accusations that he’s stingy with money.

“I would never say I support her,” Kelce said on The Pivot podcast last 12 months. “She had a very financially stable life in what she did in her career. But you have to be crazy to think that I never … helped her out or gave her a few dollars to buy some food, or she gave me some money to go buy some food.”

He explained: “I mean, we were in a relationship for five years. $100 here and $100 there wasn’t even a consideration.”

Fans criticized Kelce in April when Nicole walked out during a Lakers game, with some suggesting Kelce “hit” Nicole after a photograph of her at an NBA game garnered greater than 108,000 likes.

After the breakup, she began receiving a flood of messages from critics who criticized her interracial relationship, in addition to other nasty insults.

“Dear Black Girl, they can call you a traitor for falling in love… they can say you’re too daring, too provocative, too loud, too outspoken and all at the same time they can tell you you’re not enough,” she said in a video last October.

“They’ll say you deserve to be backlashed and embarrassed because you’re black. You should have known better.” The influencer later added, “You deserve to be protected and your feelings only matter because you’re a black girl.”
