The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) broke with its nearly century-long tradition of political neutrality in presidential elections and endorsed the Harris/Walz candidacy in a press release released on August 9.

According to the group, it is usually It is anticipated to look at an Aug. 10 campaign rally in Las Vegas. The endorsement follows a LULAC report criticizing the 2025 Project, which has been linked to Republican candidate Donald Trump, which they criticized for having a “disproportionately” negative impact on Latino Americans.

The LULAC report outlines 10 ways Project 2025 could significantly affect the civil rights of Latinos; these include, but will not be limited to: blocking legal immigration, mass deportations, criminalizing reproductive rights, dismantling the U.S. Department of Education, cutting social safety net programs, and ending diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.

Domingo Garcia, chairman of LULAC Adelante and former president of LULAC, issued a press release regarding the organization’s first-ever endorsement. The endorsement was officially given by LULAC Adelante, the group’s political motion committee.

“Throughout her career, (Vice President) Harris has demonstrated a commitment to justice, equity and inclusion — values that resonate deeply with the Latino community and will lead our country in the right direction.”

Garcia continued, “Today we proudly endorse Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because of the real issues facing Latino communities and all Americans across the country; we can trust them to do what is right for our community and country.”

According to estimates, LULAC intends to make use of its 535 chapters or councils and 140,000 members to arrange the Democratic re-election campaign, especially in key battleground states.

Reports suggest that while Latino voters have been increasingly shifting away from the Democratic Party, very similar to black Americans, this demographic group has historically voted Democratic.

To this end, LULAC, together with several other Latino community organizations and leaders, united behind harris since she actually became the Democratic candidate by announcing her intention to run for president.

According to Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Harris-Walz’s campaign manager, the endorsement from a distinguished Latino civil rights organization is consistent with the campaign’s goals and LULAC’s mission.

“They have never backed down from fighting for the communities they represent, and Vice President Harris has never stopped fighting to create opportunities for Latino families,” Rodriguez said.

In June, Vice President Harris appeared on the LULAC national convention, delivering a pre-recorded video message outlining the shared goals of the organization and the Democratic Party.

“LULAC, there is so much at stake right now as we continue to fight for paid family leave and affordable child care, to secure a path to citizenship for Dreamers and families, to lower rents and help more Americans afford homes. We continue to count on your leadership to energize, organize, mobilize, and make your voices heard,” Harris said within the message.
