Tyler Perry Says Being Evicted From ‘First Apartment After Being Homeless’ Was a ‘Blessing’

Tyler Perry has found a silver lining in his troubled past.

Media mogul exposed in Instagram post this week, he visited his “first apartment after being homeless” after learning the constructing 10 years ago could be demolished. During his visit, he reflected on his past, sharing that his eviction from his apartment constructing ultimately turned out to be a “blessing.”

In the post, Perry shared that when he first moved into the apartment, he felt “so happy” to have a home, but in addition “anxious and scared that I wouldn’t be able to pay $425 in rent every month.” He wrote that he “froze” when his landlord knocked on the door to gather rent on the primary of each month and “prayed for him to go away.”

“I was late on my rent every month. Man, it brings me to tears,” Perry says, alongside a series of photos of an apartment constructing, an apartment, and himself standing in front of the apartment. “I was trying to get things moving, but nothing was happening. I had a job at UPS Collections, and I was so depressed.”

Perry added that he “prayed and prayed that I would get the rest.” Eventually, he said, he began making “a little bit of money” from his art and “paid off all my back rent,” adding that he was “so happy” to give you the option to achieve this.

Perry said he went away one weekend to do a play and when he got here back there was an eviction notice on his door, but he had already paid off the debt to his landlord.

“I was so angry. He said I was late too many times and that I was there too long and that it was time for me to go,” he explained. “I was angry. I didn’t want to leave that one room where I found solace. But I was forced to leave that place. I was forced to leave even though I had done my duty.”

Perry added that he realized he lived in apartment number 8, which had special intending to him.

“Eight in the biblical sense means a new beginning,” he wrote above a photo of himself standing in front of his old apartment. “Now I know I was at a new beginning. Now I know if he had let me stay there, I would never have left because I would have felt so comfortable.”

Perry shared how he now realizes that “like standing water, standing still can kill your dreams,” adding, “I know now that you don’t get to the other side by staying comfortable.”

“I know now, and I thank God, that man pulled me out of that place,” he continued. “I hear his voice, ‘You have to go, you’ve been here too long.’ Looking back, it’s easy to see that as a blessing, but when you go through it, you feel like you’re at the end.”

“But I prefer to believe that you are at a new beginning. Don’t be afraid!” he concluded.
