Roy Wood Jr. will host the “Have I Got News for You” program on CNN

Roy Wood Jr. returns to TV screens.

CNN has tapped the comedian, who was a “Daily Show” correspondent from 2015 to 2023, to host its comedy show “Have I Got News for You,” in accordance with a report Hollywood ReporterThe programme is a version of the popular BBC programme that has been broadcast since 1990 on the cable television station.

CNN announced in May that it was working on a U.S. version of “Have I Got News for You,” during which “two teams of panelists will answer questions about the week’s news,” THR reports.

Wood shared his enthusiasm for the program in an announcement, jokingly calling the recent position a “dirty job,” echoing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s use of the term during a June debate with President Joe Biden.

“For too long, immigrants have come to America and taken jobs that black people have made work for, and kudos to CNN and the immigrants at Hat Trick Productions for bringing black jobs to the States,” Wood said, in accordance with THR. “It’s an honor to be part of such a venerable British institution that helps make sense of the American institutions of chaos, name-calling, disinformation, reality shows and the 8-hour news cycle.”

The CNN version of “Have I Got News for You” will have two team captains, who the network will announce closer to the show’s premiere date. The BBC version of the comedy game show encompasses a mixture of comedians, artists and political figures, in accordance with THR.

Wood, who has appeared in three stand-up specials on Comedy Central, recently began the viral hashtag #WhenITurnedBlack after Trump falsely claimed that Vice President Kamala Harris “accidentally turned black” several years ago.

“Now we know Kamala’s courageous story,” the comedian wrote July 31 alongside a video of Trump speaking about Harris at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago. “When did the rest of you ‘go’ black? How old were you? Where were you when blackness finally took over your body? Share your stories. This is a safe space. #WhenITurnedBlack.”

“Have I Got News for You” premieres on September 14 at 9:00 PM ET.
