Andra Day, Mo’Nique and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor join forces to star in “The Deliverance,” a brand new film from director Lee Daniels.

The drama, inspired by a real story, follows struggling single mother Ebony Jackson (Day). Jackson moves her family right into a latest home to “start over” after “battling her own demons,” in response to the official synopsis, in response to a press release. “When strange occurrences at the home raise the suspicions of Child Protective Services and threaten to tear the family apart, Ebony soon finds herself fighting for her life and the souls of her children,” the synopsis reads.

“It’s a thriller, a horror, but also a family drama. It’s a genre-bending thing,” Day says People in an interview. “It’s also a film about faith, which is also very important to me.”

Day says being on set with Ellis-Taylor and Mo’Nique was an “incredible” experience, women who she says are “at the top of their game and at the top of their game, but they’re hungry for success, they want to do everything they can, they have this fire inside them and they won’t stop until they have it.”

“The Deliverance” reunites Daniels with Day, who played an Oscar-nominated role in her film “The United States vs. Billie Holiday.” The actress says “Billie” was her first film and she often heard from others in the industry that Holiday can be “the most difficult character” she would ever play, but that wasn’t the case for her.

“No, that’s not true!” Day said of Holiday as a difficult character, People reported. “Which is great because working with Lee, and also because he’s such a phenomenal director, required something so specific and so nuanced. He challenged me more and was able to get more out of me.”

“The Deliverance” also marks the second collaboration between Daniels and Mo’Nique because the two reconciled just a few years ago. They were embroiled in a 13-year feud that stemmed from Mo’Nique’s refusal to advertise Daniels’ 2009 film “Precious.” In 2022, Daniels apologized to Mo’Nique, who won an Oscar for her performance, ending their feud and paving the way in which for the 2023 horror film “The Reading” and “The Deliverance.”
