Wiz Khalifa arrested in Romania, charged with illegal drug possession
Rapper Wiz Khalifa has been arrested and charged with possession of illegal drugs after headlining a music festival in Romania.
According to a French news agency, Khalifa performed on the “Beach, Please!” festival in Costinesti, Romania, where he allegedly used marijuana on stage Agence France Presse (AFP). Authorities arrested the rapper after allegedly finding marijuana in his possession in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 14, AFP reported.
Khalifa faces as much as 10 years in prison because marijuana is taken into account a “risk drug” in Romania, in response to a French source. The rapper was pictured on social media “as Romanian authorities escorted him from the concert venue,” AFP reports.
Romanian anti-organized crime organization DIICOT issued a press release shortly after the arrest on Sunday.
“During a performance at a music festival held in the Costinesti resort, the accused was in possession of more than 18 grams of marijuana and took (on stage) another amount in the form of a handmade cigarette,” DIICOT reported, in response to AFP.
Khalifa, along with several others, were taken in for questioning early Sunday morning, the source said. The rapper was reportedly charged and released shortly afterward.
Caliph issued a press release concerning the incident on Twitter the identical day.
“Yesterday’s performance was incredible. I didn’t want to disrespect Romania by lighting up on stage,” he wrote on the social media platform. “They were very kind and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But next time without the big joint.”

Marijuana use is a giant a part of Khalifa’s music and public image. In January, he joked on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast about attending his son’s parent-teacher conferences while high.
“Of course I do. I’m high. They expect it,” Khalifa told host Alex Cooper. “They know what’s up. It’s not like back in the day where you were considered a bad parent if you smoked weed. I’m pretty sure my son smells like weed. I don’t know because I can’t smell it, but I’m pretty sure he smells like weed.”
Prosecutors told AFP that an investigation into Khalifa was ongoing.
