Wimbledon kicked off a two-week tennis tournament this month, drawing stars from all over the world to the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London. Among the group – which included Sabrina Elba and Jodie Turner-Smith from Gladys Knight–– arrived on day eight of the championships to indicate us certainly one of our favourite protective styles: the headscarf.

In addition to this season’s go-to styles, like baldie braids and knotless braids, the Jamaican-British actress reminds us that headscarves never exit of favor. She tied her Ralph Lauren print scarf over her natural, low-cut locks. Unlike Beyoncé’s silk scarf moment in Paris, Turner-Smith’s scarf was tied behind her head, not under her chin.

This little detail exposed the front a part of her natural hair, which caused the sides to be covered with gel (try Fenty Hair’s Controlling Type Thickening Edge Control)––while the remaining of her head remained sheltered under the London clouds. Under the headband, the hairdresser Abra Kennedy installed a twisting comb to define the actress’s texture, which helped her hair stay intact throughout the tournament. Her look, paired with a red blush pigment and dark eyeliner under her eyes, replaced her recent romantic hairstyles with a sporty moment.

But this isn’t the primary time the actress has turned heads. At the 2024 Met Gala, Ursula Stephen transformed Turner-Smith into an “angelic rock star” with a jagged punk wig. She then appeared on Good Morning America in bob with bangs cut right into a bob and 45. Harry Bar Mayfair in a puffy afro. Now, the actress is having fun with the flexibility of the headband, wearing two different, tennis-approved styles, and reminding us that giving our hair a rest might be chic, too.
