Is Shawn Harris the man who will bring down MTG?

Shawn Harris won in the second round of the Democratic Party in the 14th congressional district in Georgia and will face outspoken Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Harris defeated Clarence Blalock with 71.5% of the vote with 34% of the votes counted. Blalock initially defeated Harris in the May 2024 state primary by just 124 votes. The elections were postponed to the second round, which took place on June 18, after each candidates did not obtain greater than 50% of the votes.

Now he will face Donald Trump’s attorney in a tricky fight for the seat marked Republican.

Greene was re-elected in 2022 defeating one other Black Democrat, Marcus Flowers. But in line with Greene has an overall negative rating of 52.5% in comparison with 42% who described it as “very unfavorable” and 10.5% who described it as “somewhat unfavorable”.

Harris, a retired brigadier general, posted a video on Twitter announcing he’s able to end Greene’s “toxic career.” He encouraged those dissatisfied together with her performance on Capitol Hill to get up to him and put him in office.

“I am grateful to voters for choosing me as the Democratic candidate to fight MTG,” he said. “Today is not about me. The point is to thank Clarence, whose work will be crucial in bringing us all together. This fight is not over; actually it just started and with Marjorie Taylor Greene.”

Thanking Blalock for his work, Harris said he desires to “unite all Democrats,” and social media fans appear to be behind it.

“Congratulations on your hard-earned Democratic nomination!” – wrote @ac_californian. “I encourage all of my followers to follow you on @ShawnForGeorgia and support you however they can so Moscow Marge can really run for her money this November!”

“Listen up, Georgia’s 14th District! Do you really want MTG to represent you?” – said @LiberalGenXVet. “MTG is not worth your vote! Choose someone who truly cares about your community and its values!”
