“We are all the authors of our own journeys, and I am at a point in my life where I feel comfortable with who I am and what I have been through as an athlete, but above all as a person,” the Olympian said in a press note.
“I do gymnastics, nevertheless it’s not who I’m and I’m excited for people to see a different side of me outside of competition. I do know there are young girls who look to me for inspiration and face similar challenges, and I hope this documentary will help them consider in who they’re and never quit on their dreams.”
Katie Walsh, director of Netflix sports documentaries, called Biles “a once-in-a-generation athlete who not only pushed the boundaries of gymnastics, but also redefined the meaning of success by choosing her mental health over medals and titles.”
