Lauryn Hill, Tyla and more will perform at the 2024 BET Awards. Here’s what you need to know about the show

NEW YORK (AP) — The 2024 BET Awards are fast approaching. Last 12 months’s show celebrated hip-hop’s fiftieth anniversary, paying tribute to the genre’s earliest voices, late legends and latest talents in a show full of spectacular performances that consistently felt like a celebration. This 12 months guarantees to be just as exciting with award-winning performers – Lauryn Hill anyone? — and presenters.

Oscar-nominated actor Taraji P. Henson will once more host the BET Awards.

“I’m thrilled to return as host of the ‘BET Awards’ for a third time,” she said in a press release. “I also look forward to celebrating with my peers and the impact our culture has on entertainment.”

When will the BET Awards be presented?

The BET Awards will air continue to exist June 30 at 8 p.m. ET on BET from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Who is nominated for the BET Awards?

Drake leads the nominations tally with seven, including album of the 12 months for his eighth studio album, “For All the Dogs.” One of the awards he’s up for is the music video for “First Person Shooter,” his collaboration with J. Cole that will have been the catalyst for his recent rivalry with rapper Kendrick Lamar.

In second place is Nicki Minaj with six, including album of the 12 months for her long-awaited release “Pink Friday 2.” Two of her nominations were for the song “Barbie World” with Ice Spice, which was a part of the hit “Barbie” soundtrack.

Months after wowing audiences along with his 2024 Super Bowl halftime performance, Usher will also receive BET’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

This 12 months’s nominated movies are: “American Fiction”; “Bob Marley: One Love”; “Renaissance: Beyoncé’s Movie”; “Spider-Man: The Other Side of the Spider”; “The Book of Clarence”; “Violet colour”; “The Equalizer 3” and “The Little Mermaid”.

Simone Biles, Naomi Osaka, Steph Curry, LeBron James and Patrick Mahomes are amongst the sports stars competing for the awards.

Who will perform at the BET Awards?

Performers will include Hill and her son YG Marley, Ice Spice and Tyla.

Country musician Tanner Adell will also perform on the BET Amplified stage.

Previously announced bands also include GloRilla, Latto, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey and Monét.
